Chapter 1 — Your Tools: Buy Once, Buy Right (excerpt)
Your tools are how you make money. Buy the right ones once, and they'll pay for themselves a hundred times over. Buy cheap, and you'll buy twice — or worse, you'll get hurt.
Power tools: Milwaukee, cordless. The M18 platform runs everything from drills to saws on one battery system. Corded tools have no place on a modern job site — they're slower, they're a trip hazard, and they tie you to an outlet.
Hand tools: Klein. Lineman's pliers, wire strippers, screwdrivers. Klein is what working electricians carry. Learn to strip wire without nicking the copper — a nicked conductor is a future failure point.
Test instruments: Fluke. A Fluke multimeter and a non-contact voltage tester are non-negotiable. The rule is simple: test before you touch, every time, no exceptions. The day you skip it is the day you find out why the rule exists.
